Re: Drums: How do I do it?
I certainly wasn't going in an "authorize to run" type of direction. The other thing to remember is the metaphor they use. It is called a "watermark". It's deeply embedded in the product, and it has slightly fuzzy edges. How do you get rid of a watermark in, say, a $5 USD bill? I...

QotD: I'm not superstitious in the traditional sense. I am a polytheist. I also believe that focused intent can change the universe in profound and perverse ways. Not only that, but I believe it is possible to unintentionally shape the universe in ways you did not actually want. This makes me a litt...

QOTD 0: Scantily dressed cafeteria ladies in hair nets making sandwiches. Ah yeah, pastrami sliced so thin, you can see right through it, piled high on fresh buns, and a slice of cherry pie! I've actually asked that question to some work associates before. I have to say this has to be one of my fav...

I was just being kinda snarky. My current marital status suggests that I'm really not qualified to give marital advice. I manage to somehow get by. My secret is to try to be nice as frequently as possible, so that when I'm an ass/arse (which will happen eventually) things don't get too carried away...

Necrothreading. You sick sick person. I was never really all that worried about this but that's still some neat technology. I know that data has been watermarked for years but actual processing that can be taken from an analog source IS impressive. A lot of that type of technology is could be devel...

Re: 2009-01-11 (Sunday)
You're really supposed to emphasize the importance of breast feeding your new baby to your spouse. It's healthier, promotes bonding, and allows dads to sleep during the process overnight. We're on a strict 3 hour schedule. I usually get to sleep much of the night, which will make going back to work...

Re: Hello to you from a newbie
I do have to say that I'm pretty impressed with what yawl can come up with in just a few days, so I'm gonna give it a shot myself with this week's Elegy For Industry. The tune I've penned is a bit more upbeat sounding than an elegy, but perhaps you'll love it so much you'll forget that elegies are ...

If that QotD doesn't float your boat, you have another option: QotD2: If you had one super-power, what would it be? Neither of these is actually the first question I thought of. I decided that question was inappropriate. (If you were a porn site, what sort of content would you provide?) QotD2: I wou...

So my new baby is getting fed every 3 hours, and it is leaving me too tired to work on this week's song. QotD: What is the strangest schedule you have kept, and how did it negatively impact you? The strangest schedule I've kept would have been when I was much younger. I was working at a grocery stor...

There is only one reason someone moves from a computer job to social work. THE CHICKS. It is a known scientific FACT that in the entire history of the world that no computer nerd has ever got it on with a lady. HOWEVER - those oh-so-sensitive social worker types with their stupid little beards and ...

Beany: congrats on the baby and the birthday. Glad she's ok. Early can be worrisome. Also, nethack is awesome. -bill Thanks. And yes, nethack is awesome. I want to take a roguelike in another direction. A direction with Unicode characters, where the symbol for a floating eye could be, like, the Chi...

I worked in the computer industry for a time... I was thinking of doing something totally different -- like social work different That's funny, my wife's brother did that exact thing. Computer stuff to social work. It seems to be sticking in his case, though... I am amazed that somebody else did al...

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a good birthday, nice and quiet -- just hangin' with the family.
@BLT: I like to think I'm sufficiently goofy. There's a lot of competition on that front here, though, so we'll see how it pans out.

This method removes all that management, except for those few areas you absolutely need. It makes the files smaller, down to like, less than a meg in many cases since I'm just manipulating a flat image, or a few layers. Also there is no selection chore, having to get transparent objects, or objects...

@Mr Beany. Congrats on the new baby. edit: Wait a tic. It is your baby, right? You didn't just happen to see one you liked and took it, did you? Thanks! Have you ever seen a nursery in a hospital these days? It is very hard to just walk in, grab a cute one, and walk out. You have a better bet steal...

QotD: (a) My last major life-changing decision was to go back to the computer industry. I worked in the computer industry for a time, but got quite burned out shortly after the stock market bubble burst and an 800 lb gorilla of a company sat on the 12 lb kitty-cat of a company I was working for. Re: The first nearly-forgotten weekend of 2009 (1/3-4/9)
I'm replying to this because the 4th was my birthday. Recently (like on the 2nd) I got to take my baby home from the hospital, which was super exciting, and made for a great birthday. Other hobbies: I'm a fan of roguelike games. These are old school computer games that predate the cursor keys on key...

So far, I've voted for you more often than I've voted for myself.
Keep it up.

Re: gotta get out of it before I get into it(Diggin Out reviews)
Ross Durand - Somehow this reminds me of the episode of "Little House on the Prairie" where Pa had to go do some mining work as the crops were poor, and a neighbor he meets along the way doesn't make it back. I probably shouldn't ask but... is that a good episode? Come on, when was there ...
