Colbert
Love him, hate him, who cares. He is pretty damn creative in a subtle way.
Tonight he had REM on and after a quick little chat and a few laughs, they played live. REM still has it! Older, wiser and they rock.

Re: Colbert
Colbert Report is a really great show as long as you are smart enough to understand that he is playing a 'character' and doesn't believe half the stuff he says.
I think his show is even better than The Daily Show, although I enjoy both.

From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style.

I saw the daily show once and thought it was stupid. Stewart looked like he was going to laugh at all his own jokes, which doesn't win him any points in my books.Rone Rivendale wrote:I think his show is even better than The Daily Show, although I enjoy both.

Re: Colbert
I don't see the problem with that. If something is funny it's funny to everyone. And if you don't think your own stuff is funny then who else will?
Mitch Hedberg is my fav comic ever (even before his death, before anyone says something stupid) and he laughed at half his own jokes.

I just feel that if you can't keep a straight face, you shouldn't be a comedian. Maybe it's a canadian thing, since most people I know feel the same way.

Re: Colbert
Steven Wright is a good example of a hilarious, twisted guy who deadpans everything.
But then again, Bobcat Goldthwait looked like he was freaking out on PCP during his performances, and he was one of the funniest standup guys ever. This pretty much commands the question: Who is your favorite comedian?

It's probably just a lot easier to keep a straight face with Canadian comedians.Reïst wrote:I just feel that if you can't keep a straight face, you shouldn't be a comedian. Maybe it's a canadian thing, since most people I know feel the same way.
From my memorise of the 70s programme shown here, The Wanye & Shuster Show - there was never any danger of anybody breaking into a smile. Certainly not in the audience anyway.
I've seen John Stewart a few times - he is pretty funny. I don't know Colbert at all.
Favourite comedians:
- Micallef
- Ross Noble
- "Rampaging" Roy Slavin and HG Nelson. (may daughter Harriet was given the middle name "Grace" jsut so she would have the initials "HG")
- Peter Cook & Dudley Moore

Re: Colbert
Daily Show is one of the very few shows on TV that actually makes me laugh out loud anymore. That and showings of "Bad Santa." I don't care for Colbert quite as much, although I accept that that's just my unwillingness to work at enjoying it...
Favorite comedian ever is probably Robin Williams, when he just cuts loose. His episode of Inside the Actors Studio is amazing, it's like seven minutes into the interview before James Lipton actually gets to ask a question.

Re: Colbert
George Carlin - seeing him live is like being beaten with a baseball bat for three hours (and enjoying it).
Bobby Slayton - ditto, only for two hours and you feel dirty afterwards.
Those two I enjoy as much on recordings as I do live. Not that many comics do that for me.
Woody Allen - his written comedy kills, but his performed comedy (movies, &c.) not so much for me.
Penn & Teller - are they comedians? Magicians? Court jesters? Keeping the vaudeville alive, them. Great live, & filmed. If you haven't seen their Penn & Teller Get Killed (and you like them), run, do not walk, to the nearest media delivery content provider and consume!

Re: Colbert
I saw Carlin live in Las Vegas. He cleared out anybody who was there by accident by starting with a joke about pussy farts. Pure Gold.
