Wine Songs
LAST EDIT: March 12 2009
Deadline: Budbreak, when the first plant buds at O'Vineyards (probably April)
Requirements: Wine or Vine-related
How to submit: Self-host or submit to mroconnell at gmail
-------------------------------
Okay. So as many of you know I used to submit a lot of mp3s to songfight.org and I am a winemaker in France.
Well I've recently started blogging pretty extensively on the subject of DIY wine and how it relates to things like DIY music and songfight. It's great to talk up DIY, but I remember Ms. Rimbey, 7th grade English teacher exalting "Show; don't tell!" I would love to host a sidefight at http://mastergrape.com/blog to showcase the songfight community and make a good example of how there are really good tracks being made by people in their living rooms.
I don't know what's running right now, and I don't want to step on toes. Would there be interest in a wine-themed fight? Is that too cheesy? Hmm. BRAINSTORM.
Thanks.

Re: Wine Songs
I was just talking to my wife about doing a song about wine the other day, since hard alcohol and beer are generally much more popular to sing about. But I don't have a concept yet

Re: Wine Songs
Funny, I was riffing off lyrics for this weeks title and I mentioned Boone's Farm, lol.
By the way Ryan, every time I check out your site, I end up spending an abnormal amount of time looking at your pictures and reading your comments. I really like seeing the wine making process and the scenery in the south of France. I think you should take more pictures of French beach boobies.

Re: Wine Songs
hahaha.
I feel like you're all placating me or mocking me because it seems unlikely that we were all about to record songs about wine anyway. But I am going to ignore that nagging sensation that this is a ruse.
I'm exceptionally pleased by this preliminary enthusiasm and I am anxious to see exactly what form WineFight takes on.
I am also making a concerted effort to take more pictures of bare chested girls at the beach, but it is colder than cold... this era is the coldest, most boobless time France has seen since the first appearance of the boob [needs citation]. I should also note that I was not the perv that took the picture. I am just the one who never deleted it and posted it on the Internet under a creative commons license. I wonder if she's cool with that.

Re: Wine Songs
Alright, no time like the present. Let's say that this fight is on. The goal is just to make the best darn wine-related song you can.
Submit any time starting today.
Submission closes on the first day that I see a bud on the vines.
That'll probably be late April, but it's hard to know for sure. An element of uncertainty!
We'll vote on songs and the winner will be the official MasterGrape theme song for a whole year (unless that would displease the winner in some way).
If anybody can think of a way to make this better, speak up.

Re: Wine Songs
I have a funny idea. I just need to peruse your wine sites and get as many wine related terms as I can. Not saying I won't A.D.D. half way through and not finish it, but I'm picturing a good theme song for Master Grape.
By the way Egg. I was reading something on the webz a few days ago that made me think of your site. I was going to message you about it, but it isn't grape related, so I figured it wouldn't be of interest to your MG site. I'm sure you've heard of mead (honey wine) before. I have, but I've never tasted it. I read an article that a guy wrote on how to make mead in small easy to do batches at home.
edit: I found the site I saw it on here.

I drink a lot of wine lately, so I will do my best to reap some inspiration from the activity.

Re: Wine Songs
I'm drinking wine right now! NY State.
Someday I hope to sample the O' wines. There is no MD distributor, I think. Damn distributors.
But I still don't have any ideas. Heh.
BLT, if ya wanna try some mead, the easiest place seems to be Renaissance Festivals, if you can find one in the summer. I wouldn't make a batch without first deciding if it's to your taste - mead is persnickety, many people just don't like it. I do. And especially mixed with other stuff, it can be a lot of fun.

Re: Wine Songs
Thanks Bill. Yeah, that's what I hear about mead, but I still MUST try it.
I'm a pretty good beer maker and I have been doing it for quite some time (an annual thing). I tried making wine ONE time and decided to leave it to the professionals.

Re: Wine Songs
Sounds good, guys.
Thanks for the link, BLT. This is totally related. DIY mead is growing just as quickly as home microbrews and DIY wine.
And always feel free to post into the comments at the blog (no matter how irrelevant it feels) because people like seeing comments and comments breed more comments.
Heuristics Inc, ya, I unfortunately still don't have distribution outside of FL. I've been working more on Europe this year. But there's a glimmer of hope for an online distributor who covers 35 states. I will let everybody know when that happens.

Just as a head's up, the almond trees are full of leaves and that means the vines are next. I anticipate bud break and the deadline will happen within 2 or 3 weeks from today!

Re: Wine Songs
Are people still into this idea? Because the buds are on the verge. I hope to have my song done by Monday. Pretty please. I want at least a couple entries to write an article about SF. And I feel like my entry won't count because (a) it is me and (b) it will be borderline unlistenable to 99% of music lovers.

Re: Wine Songs
I would love to have a song about wine in my repertoire, especially as I am playing a gig in Limoges towards the end of the month, but it's highly unlikely I could have anything recorded before Tuesday evening.

Re: Wine Songs
I had a corny idea, got the music recorded and now not so sure I want to sing what I was thinking.
