That looks very cool. (And at a hell of a discount.) Seems like it would be really handy for next year's SF: Live!, too. :-)

So, when programming drums for a song that is moving along at 160 bpm, it's helpful to know which beat your riff starts on. In this case, my 4/4 riff just happens to "start" on the 8 instead of the 1. I've spent a good three hours trying to fix this and finally figured it out. This song is the pushing the limits of my capabilities.

My computer is finally working again. And now I don't have any time to record as my parents are in town and I'm doing stuff with them. Oh well. I should still have plenty of time before the deadline, and tomorrow morning I can at least lay down a scratch track.

I'm not sure what you are saying. But if my guess is right, why not have two measures of the beat you are doing, let the first one play with you at the ready on your guitar (or whatever) and start on the 8th and continue through the second measure. Then if you don't want the beat playing on the first measure, edit it out.

Personally, I can't stand using a click track. I use a drum beat, then take out the drums if I don't want them in said spot.

Ha! I've been there. As my musical mentor Steve used to say, "You never could count!". Exhale. Breathe in slowly and move ahead.

I have a solid start to the music, lyrics are as follows:

Are you up for a fight? (shout/sing) Song Fight that's right.
Are you down for tonight? (Again shout/sing) Song Fight hold tight.
Are you right for this bout? (You get the idea) Break out your clout.
You'll be left with no doubt. (...) Let it all hang out.

No questions asked, no quarter given.
A bloody affair, egos dead on the floor.
Mettle detector, are you lying or living?
Brutally savage, test you to the core.

Are you feeling ruthless lately?
Are you feeling ruthless lately?

Ruthie left me at this club all alone
With my brand-new shirt and expensive cologne.
She met some guy and now they're gone.
It pissed me off, so world bring it on!

I am feeling ruthless lately,
Totally ruthless lately.
Because I am Ruthless lately,
Totally Ruthless lately.

Full of cliches, and hopefully at least a little humor.

BLT is right, this song did practically write it's self. Great title!

Yeah, the lack of latency compensation is one of Audacity's biggest problems. Unfortunately, even a good interface won't eliminate the need for it, it can only reduce the problem. You'll still need to deal with Audacity's terrible interface.

I do recommend trying out something else, like Ardour or Reaper. I haven't used either of them, myself, but I've heard good things about both.
I use Ardour on a linux system. It is way more than I understand, but I have been very happy with the results. Let's just say that the program is far more advanced than my capabilities.

Why is it that every time I'm starting a new song, it sounds like the best thing I've ever done, until I start the next song? Does that happen to anyone else?
Every time as well.

You could put up a clip of the shout part in the collab section and ask SF'ers to shout for crowd effect. I'm dizzown. ;)

I like this part. Everything else... eh. It's usually pretty cheap to go meta; referencing the song, it's creation, and, by extension, Song Fight!, is frowned upon on the boards and for good reason. Breaking the fourth wall is easy; finding an engaging metaphor is hard. Challenge yourself to be more creative. Also, the "I am without a girl named Ruth" thing has been brought up, kicked around and has generally run its course. Your verse to that effect doesn't bring anything new to the table. Again, find something more distinctive and unusual.

Now, in general, a fight song (à la, say, a football game) is a really neat idea for this title.

Unless it's done like this: Lucky Spoon - Hard Landing. Then it's awesome.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I'm in, with something Massive Attack inspired. There's references to Leonard Cohen, Laid Back and Quentin Crisp, and the word 'ruthless' is mentioned once.

And there's still a week to go. Exactly what are the rules about multiple submissions?

That's because EVERYTHING about that tune is awesome. And it's got a level of irony going for it, a mainstream hip-rop tune about a very not mainstream activity. It's very Weird Al: solid songcraft with a wink and a nod.

Larry, if you can pull that off, go for it.

Thanks, but I would not have any idea on how to do this. I could maybe figure out how to put it up, but then to reintegrate it into the song would completely destroy my harmony. It is a good idea though, thought of it my self. I will still try for a crowd effect, but a with local crowd. I even know a Ruth, wouldn't that be a hoot.

Yay, my song is coming together nicely! It's one of the more ambitious songs I've ever done in terms of chord progressions and time changes and such.
