Re: Deals On Gear and Software
You need to think also about how the power output is measured. 10W RMS is not the same as 10W peak.
Bass amps tend to need massive power. Put a 60W RMS guitar amp and a 60W RMS bass amp on stage, and you're going to have an extremely frustrated bass player. To get a clean sound in a modest venue, a bass player would probably want 200W RMS as a minimum.

That's wild... has the build quality gone down? I don't think you can get a used one that cheap, eh? Deal has switched over already to an analog delay (modtone) for $39. What a deal! I already have a Carbon Copy, though. That thing is unbeatable.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
They started introducing some lower end models a while back. I have a Les Paul Studio I bought in maybe 2008(?) that was only $800 new. It's a no-frills unfinished/natural version. It's not as nice as a Standard or Special for $2k/$3k but it's still very nice.

Ah, I get it, then! For whatever reason I never got into Gibson guitars, so I know very little about them.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
Not quite "gear" in the normal sense, but if you want to get custom picks printed, Steve Clayton Custom Picks is having a 20% sale until August 24, using discount code PICK20.
I can attest to their quality - they're where I got the picks printed for Song Fight Live this year, and they have incredibly fast turnaround, and even without the discount code they're pretty cheap (I think the red-on-white ones cost 35 cents each in the end).

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
Oh man that's pretty. I'd totally buy it if I didn't already have 9 guitars and nowhere to put #10.
I suppose I could just, Iunno, sell one that I'm not using, but... that's just crazy talk.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
This digital piano looks tempting. Although if someone finds a hammer-action keyboard with aftertouch that'd be even more awesomer.
Meanwhile, Steve Clayton Picks is having another holiday sale - 15% off with discount code "HALLOWEEN" in case you want to print up custom picks to throw at people or bundle in your physical CD sales or whatever it is you're meant to do with custom picks.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
I'm in the market for my first bass guitar, and this ESP LTD Tommy Stinson Signature Bass looks tempting, but kinda pricey even with the discount. I'm also looking at the Fender Squire Affinity Jazz Bass which costs a lot less.

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
Whatever you do, don't buy a guitar without trying it out first. I've only ever bought two guitars online (one bass and one resonator acoustic) and they were both just awful. NEVER AGAIN.
If your heart is really set on a model you see online, then go try it out at a Guitar Center or something first. If you like it and decide to buy it, maybe they'll match Amazon's price (or give you a deal on a case or amp to make up for the difference or something).
But be open to disappointment - a couple of years ago I'd had my heart set on one of those new 2-pickup Fender Telecaster bass guitars:
http://www.grothmusic.com/p-20893-fende ... -wbag.aspx
I was all ready, totally primed to completely fall in love with the bass, but I decided to try it out (and maybe buy it) at a local guitar store. I tried it out and it suuuuuucked. No reason in particular, it just didn't feel right, didn't sound good, and it wasn't right for me. Thank goodness I tried it out first instead of just buying it online; I'm not sure you can return something like that and say, "It was in perfect working order, I just hated it."

Re: Deals On Gear and Software
Depends on where you buy it. If you have Amazon Prime you can generally return things for free (including shipping) if you're just not satisfied with its quality.
