But what about the one-day gap between the deadline and the start of the judging as described in the schedule in the first post of this thread...? For example:
Round 0:
April 10-16
Judging April 17-18
<X> bands, <X-25> eliminations
Round 1:
April 17-23
Judging April 24-25
25 bands, 5 eliminations
Judges favorite gets immunity
I don't understand your issue.
April 10 Round starts
April 16 Round ends (April 17 at 12:01 AM if we are being exact)
April 17 Judges start deliberations
April 17 New round starts
April 18 Results

That will make Nur Ein (and any sort of social life) pretty much impossible. But am also waiting to hear about a 9-5 job in town, which will be far more civilised.
But, the only thing suckier than working...is not working

Where's the gap?
There is a gap between the 16th and the 17th.

But, if by the 16th you apparently actually mean the 17th, then there is no gap. I didn't understand that the 16th did not actually mean the 16th. The schedule in the first post in this thread might be easier to understand correctly if it maybe said what was meant...? Sorry to pick nits, just trying to make it so everything is clear and there at least isn't interpretation required around the posted schedules. (There will be plenty of ambiguity to go around thanks to the challenges. )
Dear Nur Ein competitors (and other interested parties) - the judges have been deliberating over the impact of 20 participants rather than 25, at this stage of the contest, particularly as it affects eliminations. To get the balance right and ensure the fairest chance to everyone, we have decided to alter the number of eliminations per round slightly.
Round 1 20 contestants, three eliminations, winner gets immunity
Round 2 17 contestants, three eliminations, winner gets immunity
Round 3 14 contestants, three eliminations, winner gets immunity
Round 4 11 contestants, three eliminations
Round 5 8 contestants, three eliminations
Round 6 5 contestants, three eliminations
Round 7 2 contestants, one winner
We think this is the best solution - it allows for eliminations at every round from round one (this is a competition, after all) but also increases slightly the number of competitors coming through the early rounds. As previously, forfeits will use up an 'elimination' space - so if two competitors fail to enter in time, there would only be one other elimination that round.
This information will be updated on the songlander site and the schedule on the forums, as and when those good folk have a moment to do it.
What do we collectively think (please answer individually) about a "Song Bio" thread? I believe some judges might believe that a song shouldn't need explanation or back story. That's a very good cash point. However I believe some judges have a different spin on it and enjoy reading an explanation and song bio. For round zero I wish I had posted a song bio for one judge, but was happy I didn't for another. Of course there's 3 other judges. I haven't formulated beliefs about their opinions.
Maybe a thread where judges only visit if they want to, and are not expected to? We expect them to listen to our whole songs ( which in my case seems to always be too long) and read all the lyrics, but I wouldn't expect them to necessarily read a song bio.
Btw thank you all!
Nur Ein!

I'm in favor of an optional Song Bio section. Perhaps we could provide an optional fill-in template too, such as:
Artists/guest artists:
Instruments:
DAW:
Gear/Software: ( Frex. "New microphone, it's an X!")
Concept: ( Frex. "I wanted to give this the Celine Dion / Enya treatment with a hint of metal." )
History: ( Frex. "Based on a Hungarian hymn-song my grandfather used to sing while he worked in the barn.")
Interesting facts: ( Frex. "I recorded this whilst riding on the back of a gray whale.')
Artistic Challenges and Excuses: ( Frex. "trying to get better at singing high notes; also, my DAW kept crashing and my kid was puking")
Requests for specific feedback: ( Frex. "How does my new cello sound font sound?")
Speaking for myself (as I clearly love to do) I personally wouldn't look at such a place. I've said in many threads over many years, if you feel the need to explain your motivation outside of the song, then you've already failed at writing the song. That said, it's just my opinion and I have no problem with such a thread existing. Just something that personally might work against my opinion of the songs, not for. So best if this idea comes to fruition, I steer away from it.
Not trying to be negative, just honest about myself (which may actually be the same thing).
I'll come out on the other side from j$... I'd happily read such a thing if it existed, but I don't know if it would affect my rankings. I'd have to see.
I like information.

I actually agree with J$. But - we all here suffer from some level of narcissism - that is why we are here - and we want our deep inner stories understood. Let such a thread be. I would start it - but I am in the pub phone typing, so it is difficult and will probably just end up downloading Romanian midget porn.
One thing that everyone can do is getting me some bios and pics and I'll promote your competing in the Nur Ein on social media. email it to nurein.sidefight AT gmail.

I see it. Seems to be a timing issue with the Javascript when you click too quickly. I'll try to poke into it. I think Sam wrote that page in particular if I recall.
