SongFight! Cell Phone Ring Tones

Post by Dan-O from Five-O »

There was a thought about this a while back, but it was put together in a fight type format. I tried to revive it to no avail so I'll try a new thread. What I have is a a cell phone that can download real songs for ringtones. What I want is to have my cell phone ring out one of my own songs, but I have no clue how to go about it. I'm hoping one of you do. So here's you're opportunity to show how bright you are. Tell us all how to download our songs to our cell phone. Dammit, if my wife can have the frickin' "Partridge Family" on her cell phone, I ought to be able to have my own song on mine. So please, help me out folks.

Do you have Bluetooth on your phone? I exchange info between my phone and my computer via bluetooth. My phone plays midi files and mp3's, so if I put my song onto my phone and select it as a ringtone - hey presto. Another way to do it is more old skool, ie use the sound recorder on the phone and record it live coming out of your speakers.

Should work I reckon.
so . . . when was the last time you backed up?

I have an old phone that only goes "beep" - but I lost the charger so it doesn't even do that anymore.

I like it better that way.

Can I have your phone?

I like this idea, BTW, and my next phone will play all sorts of cool excerpts from other people's songs.

If I'm not mistaken...I believe a senior songfighter has already done this on his phone.

Seems to me that you can just put the song you want into ring tone format via software...isn't it .mid anyways? Email it to your phone and save it as ring tone. Or if your phone has the ability to play mp3's as ring tones..I imagine thats even easier.

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1498517852773617/ <-- here is an article on the subject. Although the softwere it suggests only has a free trial. At least it's a step in the right direction.

I AM no master on this subject...just shooting from the hip here.

Looks like your phone does not have bluetooth or infrared, so you'll have to do it via e-mail, or perhaps the data cable.

How can you exist without bluetooth on your phone? I guess you'll never get "bluejacked" then.
so . . . when was the last time you backed up?

Hey, I knew I was fucking moron the moment I placed this post, but only 40%? Fuck that! I know I'm at least a 50% moron. Shit..I may have to vote myself just to get me there.

Spud's method seems to involve a lot reading, and a MAC which I don't have. OK, you can stop laughing now. Seriously, thanks for the help and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Just because they used a Mac to make their .mp3 doesn't mean you have to. You submit stuff here, right? As far as the reading goes, it boils down to this: change the file extension to .mid and email it to yourself. I hope this post wasn't too long.
