Nur Ein II
Seeing as Songfight Live is coming in August, I figure now would be a good time to start up the second contest of the Nur Ein. (I didn't want the Nur Ein to clash with the big show)
If you're new to the concept, here's basically how it goes:
Nur Ein (it's German for "Only One")
* 25 Bands enter into the Nur Ein but in the end, there can be only one winner.
* Each fight will take eight days to complete and will be a challenge of skill, creativity and a battle against time.
* On Day 1, a song title will be named (as chosen by the host and the jury). It will not be a songfight title as the sidefight will run on its own timeframe.
* With every title, there will be non-optional challenge attached. Previous challenges included hand claps, female vocals and no rhyming.
* The bands will have 5 days to complete the challenge song.
* There will also be an obscenely hard music trivia challenge. The first person to come up with the right answer wins immunity and goes onto the next round of the Nur Ein without having to make a song. This is good for those with time problems.
* Songs will be self-hosted (if you don't have space, ask me) .
* After the deadline, the songs will be strung into a podcast or hosted stream that can be enjoyed, while the Jury deliberates.
* Reviews and loud talking is encouraged but the jury will not be swayed (except by large bribes).
* On the 8th day, the jury will make their decision and some fighters will be eliminated. Here's the elimination breakdown:
Stage 1: 25 bands- 5 eliminations
Stage 2: 20 bands- 5 eliminations
Stage 3: 15 bands- 4 eliminations
Stage 4: 11 bands- 4 eliminations
Stage 5: 7 bands- 3 eliminations
Stage 6: 4 bands- 2 eliminations
Stage 7: 2 bands- the vote of the exiles chooses the winner.
NUR EIN!
* The band with the jury's favorite song gets an exemption.
* If the songs are of exceptional quality, we can adjust the amount of eliminations to add extra rounds.
*On that 8th day, after the eliminations are made, the new challenge title is released and the next stage begins.
Got the idea. Cool. Then let's begin. There are 25 participant slots open.
Ken and Glenn, both of you have offered to be judges this year. If you two are still interested, I'll happily take you up on your offers. I think someone else offered as well but I can't think of who.....

I'll do it if you want, though I haven't offered before. My taste in music is sufficiently abnormal so as to provide some much-needed randomness to the competition, and I'm impartial because I hate you all equally. Like Simon Cowell with a worse hair-cut.Niveous wrote:Yes, i do need a 4th judge. Someone had offered but for the life of me I can't remember who.
I'll bet it was me. Sounds like something I'd do. But with Ken and Glenn on the panel already, Ben's a much better 4th judge.Niveous wrote:Someone had offered but for the life of me I can't remember who.

Any idea how soon you'd start? This is a bit later than last year, If it goes into summer I won't be able to hang with the schedule.
But I'm a Nur Ein! Lover so I really am frothing at the mouth here!!
BTW - I don't know if the rules are up for debate. but: 1. The music trivia challenge was often solved before most contestants even saw it (or close to that) I, for one, would suggest it not be a part of the game. 2. If the top song gets an exemption, it should be clear ahead of time exactly which rounds this does and does not apply to. I, for one, was a bit dissapointed not to have earned exemption with "El Balazo," especially considering that the non-exemption for that round was not made clear until the same time the results were posted.
Nuff said. I hope the schedule allows me to throw my hat in this ring!

Oh, and should I deem that the schedule prohibits me committing to participation, I would be willing to serve as a judge on the panel.

Didn't it go up at a specific time? Maybe I'm imagining that... If not, then I think if you had the question go up at one time then it would be easier to have a chance. You could even move the time around from week-to-week(although of course publicize what time it'll be), so all time zones have a fair advantage.rdurand wrote:1. It did go up at a specific time, but based on the jobs various people have and such it just didn't strike me as a fair contest.Bjam wrote:Didn't it go up at a specific time? Okay, here's what we have so far:
Judges this year are Glenn, Ken, Ben and Niv.
Participants so far:
1. Luke Henley
2. Ross Durand
3. Puce
4. Tex Beaumont
5. Rabid Garfunkel
6. NatchDan
7. Sven Mullet
8. Feldspar
(17 spots remain)
As for a start date, we can start as soon as we get our ducks in a row and be done by early July (again, trying not to clash with SF Live). And as for the immunity challenge, I'll just post it here instead of on the webpage and at night instead of during the afternoon, so that it'll be fairer to all.

From out of the depths of the songfight past and from the other side of the planet....how can i turn down such an offer? Okay, we are gonna do a 5 person jury- Glen, Ben, Ken, Niv and Mo. With a jury like that, this ought to be fun.

I was going to suggest shifing the start times for the songs earlier. Last time I often didn't get the titles until (my) Saturday afternoon - meaning I always missed my valuable Fri night/Sat morning recording times. Hate to be a whinger, but...
