Ironman
Superhero movies have been the flavour for the last few years, and there have been a lot of bad ones. Thankfully, this one isn't too bad.
The story is pretty solid and, believe it or not, largely makes sense. The action is done in a very convincing manner, there are excellent actors in it, and the dialogue isn't the usual hokey superhero movie lines. It even has Jeff Bridges in it, in a false head and beard. I couldn't pick him to begin with, but he is there. Robert Downey Jr was an excellent choice for Tony Stark, he plays the wealthy, successful, self-interested businessman amazingly. And his change to 'good' is convincing too. Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts is an odd choice. She isn't bad at all, but the character seems so superfluious.
I can't proclaim this the greatest film ever, but it is an enjoyable, well written and acted movie that is worth seeing.

Re: Ironman
Easily the best Superhero movie since Spiderman (no, not the second one), if not earlier. Moral without being preachy, realistic without taking itself too seriously, funny without being cheap or slapstick, and containing real character development without any of the [seemingly mandatory] whining and tears.
Also, in the scene when Downey comes across the package from Paltrow, I leaned over to my friend and said "Oh no! She left him her own head in a box!". There it is: the cleverest thing I'll ever say.

Re: Ironman
Yup, a very well done superhero movie. Iron Man is the most believable hero since Batman. The only thing that made me roll my eyes was when Pepper types the word "translate" into a little magic text box of goodness, and the computer translates into english. Why are computers always portrayed as running on magic?
Irwin: I'd sell my soul to jesus to program drums like signboy.

Re: Ironman
The funny thing is, of all the futuristic technology in the movie, the real-time translation is actually probably the most plausible.signboy wrote:The only thing that made me roll my eyes was when Pepper types the word "translate" into a little magic text box of goodness, and the computer translates into english.

Re: Ironman
Brilliant movie, anybody who's ever read Iron Man will be happy (pardon the pun!) with the transition to the big screen, and that's an excellent twist after the credits, as some of you know I'm a big Marvel Comics nut, and this is the first Marvel film that's completely satisfied me... (that sounds extremely wrong!!).

Re: Ironman
never read the comic, but my friend convinced me to go see this tonight instead of our usual guild wars. it was fun. a lot over-the-top and there was so much technology that is way out there, but it's a superhero show! i'm sure the beginning setting of the movie isn't anything like the original comic - what was that like?

Re: Ironman
Actually Bill, the movie sticks pretty close to the original Comic Book origin, Just changing 60's Vietnam into 00's Afghanistan, the evolution of the armour is accurate too (if trunkated for ovbious reasons), bulky grey, through Gold, to Red and Gold.
In all this movie most captured the essence of the Comic Book yet still allowed for the update into modern times, no mean feat or a character created in the sixties, this is probably due to the fact that the technology used in Iron Man has always been futuristic (and still is...), oh for repulsor tech.

Re: Ironman
I finally watched it last night. I think it was great. I love that he's a mechanical genius and his spare time is spent building hot rods. I'm looking very forward to the future Iron Man flix.
