Hi all. Been a while. I might submit this time. I will have a day tomorrow to do so, maybe, thought it happened to land on a horrible title.

I think about song fight all the time.

It looks like I'll be in... might be bringing friends. I thought the title odd and not very inspiring and then got an idea 5 minutes later and had the song written in no time.... now I'm off to record.

Hi, I've been following Songfight for a few years now, watching, listening, learning, lurking in the background.
I've written a few songs in the past using Songfight titles but never submitted them, however, I decided this week to have a crack at it so I've sent one in for this fight. Good to be here...

Okay, I've got a lyric that's sort of a distant variation on this (sorry, BLT, it'll be more "Navajo," less "porn star") and have started laying down tracks... may have something by Saturday, may not. One of the other aftereffects of my surgery is that my left ear has been clogged up and I don't get much 1-4k over there, so I may have to do a Brian Wilson and mix in mono or almost mono...

Anyway, given the weirdness of the title, I'm kinda pleased with the approach I came up with, so maybe I'll make a reappearance this time... hope JoS makes a return, too! We should have a "homecoming" fight some time where we send special invites to a bunch of us "where are they now?" people :-) (I Miss the Landfills)

It's odd that so many people are saying this is a strange title. Is "cloud cuckoo land" not a common phrase in the States? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_cuckoo_land

Maybe I'm missing something ... it wouldn't be the first time

Huh, I never heard of it. I don't think it's very common here.
Here you might say "La-la land" or ... I think there's something else, but it's not coming to me right now.

I looked at the references and the musical ones at least are all or mostly from the U.K. beginning in the 80's. I'd think it entered the social conscience of you nice folks across the bowl more than here. I don't have any memory of reading about it or any references to it. But then I'm a forgetful guy anyway.

If I'd known that reference I'm sure I'd have done a different take, but being done with mine as of 5 minutes ago it's too late now.

*edit: Just realized that my take works very well after all

The Wikipedia discussion page says that the modern incarnation of the term started in Germany during WW2. Of course, you can't always believe what you read on the internet.

Part of me wants to believe that Spud forged the Wikipedia article for this exact purpose.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I should prolly put my customary lyrics/melody to music then.. I accidentally got the right idea.

This is most likely because I am bat-shit crazy :S

Perhaps, but in the present I don't know anyone who uses the German word.
