4/7/15 David Bowie

Post by glennny »

What's your favorite David Bowie song?

Today is my 10th anniversary with my wife. The first time I talked to her on the phone I serenaded her with Ziggy Stardust. Bowie is certainly the band my wife and kids and I converge on the most. My kids singing Life on Mars or Ziggy Stardust is hilarious and awesome. I love All the Young Dudes and all of Hunky Dory and Aladin Sane. My favorite might be Moonage Daydream, there are dozens of excellent songs. Is there anything more 60's than Dig Everything?

Today I just have to choose Ziggy Stardust.

Awwwwright, I want the "Young Americans". Actually, that whole album (Young Americans) is amazing. He covers "Across the Universe" and funks it right up, for example. "Fame" is the big hit, and it's good but probably my least favorite on the album. Full disclosure: I should probably learn more about David Bowie. But "Under Pressure" was never a big deal for me. "Space Odyssey" was and still is.

Generic wrote:My favorite is "Under Pressure." But this is another question where a lot of really good songs get left behind when I pick one favorite.

(By the way, if you do a "What's your favorite David Bowie song?" day, my answer will be the same.)

First off, thanks for the story about your wife and kids. For a guy with a family, it's really touching to see others who incorporate and recall when music played an important part in their life.

My favorites are anything from the Labyrinth soundtrack. Please, disregard the codpiece!

It took me awhile to narrow one down. Honorable mentions to "Five Years", "Starman", "Jump They Say" & "Suffragette City". My favorite is "Life On Mars?". That lyric over Rick Wakeman's piano, so good.

I don't have a favorite but there's a bunch that I like, such as:

(especially the weird remixes he did with Trent Reznor)

Probably "Life on Mars" for me, too. Not that I have any idea what the song is about, but it really strikes a chord.

I'm afraid of americans! I did a cover.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.
